Position Description

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Field Based Marketing, the Director of Field-Based Marketing (Central / West) will be a key member of the Marketing Team committed to ensuring the successful launch of tivozanib for RCC (renal cell carcinoma).

The Field-Based Marketing Role will play a vital role in creating and executing a comprehensive engagement strategy for tivozanib by developing a best-in-class experience with external stakeholders. The Field Based Marketers will be responsible for collecting insights regarding changing treatment patterns, establish and manage Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) and key stakeholder relationships (e.g., academic institutions, professional associations, congress organization committees), create and implement comprehensive engagement plans, and gather market insights to inform the development and execution of commercial strategies and tactics.

The ideal candidate will be a driven, analytical individual with a proven competency for scientific knowledge and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with KOLs. He/she will have strong communication, presentation skills, and the ability to effectively interact collaboratively with and influence key internal and external customers including scientific leaders and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and drive relationships with key oncology disease-state Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in their assigned region while being the liaison for the Executive team
  • Appropriately mobilize thought leaders to their peers in oncology clinics across the region
  • Monitor regional trends and make real-time updates to KOL engagement plans
  • Determine national and local promotional program capabilities of KOLs
  • Identify oncology thought leaders who are appropriate for speaker programs, advisory boards, conferences, and home office training
  • Support Sales Representatives in conversations with KOLs to deliver proper product label information and brand messaging
  • Create and maintain accurate and detailed KOL and key stakeholder lists, engagement strategy and action plans to contribute to launch execution
  • Work closely with the broader Commercial team to ensure alignment on the implementation of programs and marketing tools
  • Gather insights to advance brand strategies and deliver business results
  • Contribute to the development of marketing/commercial strategies and tactics directed towards national, regional, and institutional pathways, where applicable
  • Lead/assist in the design, recruitment, and execution of advisory boards
  • Lead the identification and recruitment of speakers in collaboration with field sales, lead and/or assist in the speaker training process, liaising with appropriate stakeholders in both legal, compliance, and medical, and partnering with internal operations on speaker program execution
  • In collaboration with the brand team, develop and implement national congress strategy with a particular focus on recruiting, organizing, and moderating the meetings and discussions with KOLs to advance business objectives
  • Develop clear and fully aligned KPI measurement linked to national- and local-level plans, based on a thorough understanding of market dynamics, competitive landscape and future trends and opportunity assessment
  • Ensure all promotion tactics adhere to regulations, requirements, and all other relevant federal, state, local, laws and internal operating procedures and branding guidelines
  • Manage the development and execution of materials required for meetings with KOLs, including advisory boards, advocacy groups, and professional societies
  • Oversee and have full accountability for budget associated with activities/events implemented

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of pharmaceutical experience in U.S. oncology Sales and/or Marketing
  • Must have existing KOL relationships with GU oncologists
  • Proven successful track record of relationship building with external stakeholders, while extracting insights that are relevant for the business strategies and ongoing plans
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to translate complex information into succinct and impactful messages
  • Strong scientific acumen
  • Successful design and implementation of strategies with an ability to define a clear path in a complex environment, utilizing strong analytical skills to navigate through complex challenges
  • Ability to present to all levels of the organizations to individuals and groups as well as respond succinctly and clearly to any questions and challenges while presenting
  • Ability to effectively access, interact with, and influence various internal and external audiences as needed to support strategic initiatives, goals, and objectives

About AVEO

The Company’s lead candidate is tivozanib, an oral, once-daily, next-generation vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). It is a potent, selective, long half-life inhibitor of all three VEGF receptors, which AVEO is seeking to develop and commercialize in North America as a treatment for renal cell carcinoma (RCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other cancers. On June 1, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted for filing the New Drug Application (NDA) for tivozanib as a treatment for relapsed or refractory RCC and assigned a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) target action date of March 31, 2021. Tivozanib (FOTIVDA®) is approved by the European Commission for the treatment of adult patients with advanced RCC in the European Union plus Norway, New Zealand and Iceland. AVEO is leveraging or seeks to leverage partnerships to develop and commercialize its pipeline of products and product candidates, including tivozanib in oncology and other indications in various geographies, and ficlatuzumab (HGF MAb) in head and neck cancer and pancreatic cancer. AVEO’s earlier-stage pipeline includes AV-203 (anti-ErbB3 MAb), AV-380 (GDF15 MAb) and AV-353 (Notch 3 MAb) drug candidates being developed for various oncology indications.

Tivozanib, ficlatuzumab, AV-203, AV-380 and AV-353 are investigational drugs and have not yet been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
